"Ei toire linde!" marks the return of dance to A Barraca

The new choreography by multidisciplinary artist NOÉ, Ei toire linde!, will be presented on the 15th at the Teatro Cinearte in Lisbon, marking the return of dance to the headquarters of the company A Barraca after a decade's absence, the company announced this Thursday.
Also with artistic direction by NOÉ, artistic director of the artistic project NO is Performing Arts, Ei toire linde! consists of “an insurgent dance for the liberation of male bodies”, according to the statement from A Barraca about this hosting.
Ei toire linde! is part of a “complete queer programming event”, with the show ending with a conversation with the audience moderated by the president of Opus Diversidades, Helder Bértolo, while in the café-concert there will be a photographic exhibition about the creation process of the show, by Pedro Marcelino Custódio, and a video report of the process, by Rita Casaes.
On opening night, the theater doors will open with the feminist and LGBT choir Alarido, and at the end of the show, between 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM, there will be a party with DJ Set by popsucker, adds A Barraca.
Ei Toire Linde! “revisits dances historically reserved for men, from the court ballet of Louis XIV to the Argentine tango, to confront the constructions of masculinity that still shape the body and gesture.”
The show is inspired by "the figure of the bullfighter evoked by the paso doble," with four performers "immersing themselves" in "the search for a masculinity free from the shackles of the present," according to its presentation text.
"Between strength and fragility, moving mirrors and hybrid costumes — from bullfighters to high heels — the show proposes a reflection on the effects of hegemonic masculinity and on the urgency of subverting gender norms in dance and society," reads the statement, which defines Ei Toire Linde! as "a performative experience that celebrates vulnerability and insurgency as forms of liberation."
The cast includes Diogo M. Santos, João Pataco, Junis Becherer, and NOÉ, who also designed the costumes and characterization, in a show with technical direction, lighting design, and operation by Ricardo Campos.
Produced by NO é Artes Performtivas, together with Teatro das Figuras and the Faro City Council, the first performance of Ei toire linde! begins at 9:00 pm, while three other sessions, on November 16, 23 and 30, will take place at 5:00 pm.
